SEPTEMBER 2011 Salutations! Hope the near end of this glorious summer finds you all well. While all of you are closing the season and preparing for the one to come, the constant duty of trail work is underway. CLUB MEETING: We will meet Thursday, September 8th, 2011 at 7:00 pm at the Langford-New Oregon fire hall. Come on down! Have any ideas? Perhaps new ideas on fundraisers, get together events and trail rides, the Christmas party? Bring them with you! FROM THE TRAIL: Work has begun! Culverts have been put in. Brush hogging is underway. Lumber has been purchased to start much needed bridge decking replacements. With archery season fast approaching, this means contacting landowners and letting them know we are doing trail work. We need to get in, do what needs to be done, and get out before OCTOBER 15th. Section leaders need to get a handle on their trail needs. Quite a few of you still keep in contact; however, there are those of you who do not. We need to know if you are still with us. We are holding a trail leader/groomer operator meeting at the South Dayton Hotel on Tuesday, September 6th, 2011 at 7:00pm. Last, but not least, there is so much to do and so few who dedicatedly do it. If you can help out in any way, please call RICK @ 983- 4380 or RICCO @ 445-7668. GROOMER NEWS: Bill Stickney has located a groomer, a John Deere 6400. Located in Elliot Lake, Ontario, plans are in the works to see the groomer, with possibilities of purchasing it. This decision has been voted on and approved by your Board of Directors. INFORMATION: Rather receive your newsletter via Email? Just send me your Email address at susan_brecker57@yahoo.com . Can you believe it? Autumn has arrived! The country air welcomes you with nature’s harvest of the rich smell of grapes and the sweet scent of apples. The trees are beginning their feast for the eyes, slowly changing their dress from the lush green of summer to their fall wardrobe ablaze of reds, oranges, and yellows. I love this time of year! There are a few members who have been out on the trails volunteering their evenings and nearly all of their weekend time to ensure that our trails will safe this season…ALL FOR YOU! There are those who are doing seasonal groomer repairs and maintenance. You know who you are, and I thank you! Speaking of maintenance, now is the time to give your sleds the once over! Ahh, lovely January. With all its splendor of the bitterness of the cold, the blinding of the sun’s brightness reflecting off the freshly fallen snow. You stop to rest and take in the view from the hilltop with the breath you exhale reminds you of the snow crusted buffalo herd huddled together to keep warm. Well, there is always hope. Winter isn’t over yet. MEETING will be held this Thursday, January 12, 2012 @ 7:30pm at the Langford-New Oregon Fire Hall. Hope to see you there. FROM RICK KEMPF & RICO on the trails: The C4 corridor trail leading into the village of Gowanda has been brushed out and trimmed back so that the large groomers can get within a mile of meeting from the north and south. Thanks to all who participated! Would like to name each of you however, I fear for leaving someone out. You know who you are and again, thanks. A new bypass trail was installed between Bagdad and Wheater roads so the large groomer can make it up the hill out of the valley. RIDING ETIQUETTE can’t be stressed enough. Read and obey the signage. Respect the landowners’ property and their wishes. If you need to relieve yourself, do so with discretion…EGADS! I can’t believe adults need to be reminded of this! Respect the beauty of nature and do not leave your trash, cans, bottles, etc and dispose of appropriately. If you love to ride, ride to keep the privilege. GUN RAFFLE DRAWING…will be held at our February meeting on 2/09/2012. If you are in need of additional tickets, contact Ross Moritz at 604-2427. Be sure to hand in your money at the meeting. MERCY FLIGHT BENEFIT…is on January 28, 2012 from 12-5pm at the Gowanda Moose Lodge. Tickets are $20.00 each and include food and refreshments. Music by ROCKIN REVUE promises to be entertaining. A STSD snowmobile ride in is planned…of course, snow willing. ANNUAL BRIDGE PARTY…Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Shep’s Crossing/Lenox Road. Last but not least…PRAY FOR SNOW! No business like SNOW business~SUE |
